The Canadian Space Commerce Association has an ongoing relationship with the National Research Council’s (NRC) Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP) aerospace representatives. Late last week we were informed by our friends at IRAP that they had formed a partnership with the Space Angels Network (SAN). The details of which are below. For members of the CSCA, and the commercial space community at large in Canada, this provides them with an added opportunity to connect with potential funders in the early stages.
NRC IRAP and Space Angels Network Partnership
The IRAP Aerospace Sector Team has developed a partnership with Space Angels Network (SAN). We will be providing value added advisory services to Canadian Space Technology SMEs in order to help the firms prepare to be considered by SAN.
Below are the areas they are looking to invest in (in no particular order):
- Ground Networks
- Human Spaceflight
- In-Space Services
- Launch & Transport
- Microgravity Research
- Space Energy
- Space Habitats & Real Estate
- Space Resources (e.g. asteroid mining)
Type of companies – level of development/financing needs:
- They are looking for seed funding of $100-600k.
- They are focused on a commercial product (not on academic or scientific research program).
- The company’s leadership are well equipped to carry out the plan.
If you already have an IRAP Industrial Technology Advisor (ITA), contact them and ask for an introduction to the IRAP Aerospace Sector Team who will work with you on the SAN initiative. If you don’t have an ITA, please call the IRAP toll free line at 1-877-994-4727. Once you have been assigned a regional ITA, they can connect you to the IRAP Aerospace Sector Team to work on the SAN initiative.
