Due to the building flooding at Fionn MacCool’s, the Thursday, January 8th, 2009 meeting is moved to an alternate location.
The alternative location is Jack Astor’s Yonge and Bloor at 2 Bloor Street E. (416-923-1555). We will be meeting in the “Elvis Booth”, beginning at 7pm.
Reservations are under “Canadian Space Commerce Association” and the booth has free internet access but is open to the rest of the establishment.
The CSCA is now planning its Annual General Meeting for January in Toronto. Please comment on this message with your ideas for Agenda items and topics of discussion.
Currently we are attempting to get speakers on the following topics:
CSCA regular meetings take place at Scallywags, 11 St. Clair West, in the private room on the second floor, beginning at 7pm. Meetings are called to order at 7:30pm and when speakers are booked, the presentation begins at 8 pm sharp.This meetings agenda will include:
- 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm – Beverage and general discussion; dinner.
- 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm–Jocelyn Boily will speak on the Google Lunar X prize.
- 9:00 to end – Open forum discussions.

Space Solar Power
Its known as Space Solar Power, and it promises unlimited, clean energy to power all nations forever more. Beyond just a bunch of old guys dreaming or grumbling about it, SSP is now being looked at by politicians and national agencies as a clean solution to the world’s energy needs. India, China, and Japan are considering entering into long-term purchase agreements with one company, the Space Island Group, for power beamed at 10 cents / kilowatt into their national or state energy grids.
This workshop will be introduced with a briefing on the current state of technology and financing for SSP, and continue to a brainstorming session regarding entrepreneurial opportunities arising from a world economy that involves space-based beamed power: business opportunities to help in constructing, maintaining, and exploiting the vast solar arrays and ground stations, and large, habitable space stations that would be created in such a project, should it come to fruition.
